Guaiacol CAS 90-05-1

Short Description:

Guaiacol CAS 90-05-1

Brief introduction

Guaiacol (also known as guaiacol, named after the guaiacol tree native to Latin America) is a natural organic compound with the molecular formula C6H4 (OH) (OCH3). This colorless aromatic oily compound is the main component of wood distillate oil and can be obtained from resins such as guaiacol and pine oil. The common guaiacol appears dark due to exposure to air or light. Due to the decomposition of lignin, the smoke produced during the combustion of firewood contains guaiacol. Many foods have a special odor due to the presence of guaiacol, such as roasted coffee beans. The special flavor of smoked food mainly belongs to the action of guaiacol and syringol. Yuchuang phenol turns blue when it encounters ferric chloride

Usage
Guaiacol has a wide range of industrial applications. Guaiacol is commonly used to produce various fragrances such as eugenol, vanillin, and artificial musk. Guaiacol is also widely used in medicine. It can be used to synthesize guaiacol benzenesulfonate (potassium guaiacol sulfonate), as a local anesthetic or preservative, and can also remove phlegm and treat digestive disorders. Due to its reducing properties, it is often added in small amounts as an antioxidant in cosmetics and is often used together with enhancers, metal ion chelating agents, and other additives. Because it reacts with oxygen and appears darker, guaiacol is also used as a dye. Guaiacol is also used as an organic synthesis raw material and a standard substance for analysis and determination.
